Inventive ideas take shape in ordinary moments!
I had often heard of this impromptu but deliberate thought-provoking notion but had no clue that someday I would be talking to you about an ingenious educational concept of mine that I envisaged during a random conversation with one of my postgraduate students.
“The educational process has no end beyond itself; it is its own end”
As we read the above saying by John Dewey, the first thought that comes to our minds is that postgraduate educational learning is unending and ever-evolving.
I remember education being relatively uncomplicated. We were required to enroll ourselves in an institution and attend physical lectures in real-time. Our learning involved theoretical notes, practical demonstrations, and instructional implementations. Our recourse to higher education was more or less alike, except that it included attending acclaimed universities around the globe to attain specialized knowledge.
This more or less pedagogical learning made education transparent and smooth.
“Change is the result of all true learning”
With traditional teaching culture as quintessential, the world began to demand a paradigm shift in the specialized educational culture. Alternatives on how to continue learning even after we have learned began to bother the geniuses.
What the world wanted was simple!
- It wanted to acquire wider knowledge in a limited time
- It wanted proficiency without having to attend real-time classes
- It wanted new and innovative techniques to outreach geographical boundaries
It wasn’t easy, but the transition from offline to online, distance or electronic learning manifested as the perfect solution. Indeed a day to be lauded!
Online educational learning became the new decorum of educational impartation.
Connecting to the classes on any device whenever you had the time was a punctilious strategy of the new education system. And a remarkable 1.6% growth in online learning every year shows how widely accepted this form of learning has become.
“Medical school education and post graduate education emphasize thoroughness”
Now, medical education is the trick part!
Since medical education does not rely on books and knowledge, challenges faced by medical students were far greater than other educational seekers. It set them apart.
Withundeniably two characteristic traits-
- An instructional approach to learning
- Traditional classroom culture
It was clear that one cannot learn medicine online.
Medical postgraduates, residents, or interns, who wanted to gain access to specialized studies and art of the state techniques, but did not have time to attend classes in real-time as they were too busy with their shifts and duties, began to explore it with the help of online classes, live web simulations, webcasting, and online chat rooms.
This is great but was it really as it seemed?
