Akshay Tiwari
Brief Introduction:
Dr Akshay Tiwari is Director, Musculoskeletal Surgical Oncology at Max Institute of Cancer Care, Max Superspeciality Hospital, Saket. He is a fellowship trained Musculoskeletal/ Orthopedic Oncologist, and is credited with setting up the first exclusive Musculoskeletal/ Orthopedic oncology unit in Delhi- NCR, and the first to use computer navigation for bone tumors.
Clinical Experience
1. Worked as Post Graduate Trainee in Lady Hardinge Medical College and associated Smt. Sucheta Kriplani, Ram Manohar Lohia ,and Kalawati Saran Children Hospitals, New Delhi, from May 2001 through April 2004.
2. Worked as Senior Resident (Orthopaedics) in Sitaram Bhartiya Institute for Scientific Research, New Delhi from May 2004 through June 2004, exposed to various aspects of orthopedic management, including arthroplasty and arthroscopy.
3. Worked as Senior Resident (Orthopaedics) Lady Hardinge Medical College and associated Smt. Sucheta Kriplani, Ram Manohar Lohia ,and Kalawati Saran Children Hospitals, New Delhi from August 2004 through August 2007.
4. Senior Research Associate (Pool Officer), CSIR, from August 2007 through April 2008, attached to Lady Hardinge Medical College and Associated Hospitals, New Delhi
5. Fellow, invited and sponsored by the host institute, at Department of musculoskeletal Oncology, Istituti Ortopedici Rizzoli, Bologna, Italy (May 2008 through October 2008).
6. Worked as Consultant Orthopedic Oncologist at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre – November 2008 – 2017. Head of Musculoskeletal Oncology Unit from 2015- 2017.
7. Presently Associate Director and Head, Musculoskeletal Oncology, Max Institute of Cancer Care, Saket.
Teaching Experience
Involved actively in orthopedic teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students in institute affiliated to the University of Delhi- included Lectures, Clinical Classes and tutorials in various capacities – August 2001- April 2008.
Teaching activities in orthopedic oncology for fellows and DNB surgical oncology students- since 2008.
